This cluster covers those components of a system which protect the user and their data from network attacks. Such attacks may include malware infection, distributed denial of service attacks and direct attempts at penetration. Technologies may be applied at the client or server level, particularly at internet gateways. The cluster also covers technologies to analyse and investigate network attacks as well as security in emerging paradigms such as Software as a Service (SaaS) and Peer to Peer (P2P) applications.
