OrbisIP Ltd / BAE Systems Press Release:
Identifying innovation to defend against threats to national security
UK based specialist security technology commercialisation firm OrbisIP Limited have undertaken a number of projects to support international defence, security and aerospace company BAE Systems. The research has contributed to investment decisions made by BAE Systems through its Investment In Innovation (I3) programme. This programme was set up in 2008 to encourage and support innovative small and medium sized enterprises in the development and delivery of new technology to improve security, in the UK and world-wide.
With the ever changing and growing threat against Critical National Infrastructure and our citizens, the importance of identifying and helping to bring to market innovative security technology that can help to address and defend against these threats is paramount.
OrbisIP security technology experts have been carrying out a number of research activities to identify sources of innovative security technology from existing market participants and emerging technologies from early stage Intellectual Property (IP) producers worldwide.
Further work has been done by OrbisIP to test the security claims of innovative technology and make recommendations for improvements to the underlying technology.
The work by OrbisIP has supported BAE Systems in the analysis of biometrics, surveillance, and cyber security. There have also been other specialist projects undertaken as part of the relationship including OrbisIP working with BAE Systems to help them investigate opportunities to apply the I3 model in international markets.
Peter Jaco, CEO of OrbisIP commented: “We are enjoying our work with BAE Systems in support of their Investment In Innovation fund. Too often we have seen potentially ground shifting early stage security technology research that could solve some of the world’s security threats not succeed as there has not been a ready path to market for small firms or research groups to work closely with Prime Contractors and their Government customers. BAE Systems approach helps to bridge this gap and we are proud to support their model.”
David Mullin BAE Systems Manager, Investment In Innovation, said: “Our work with OrbisIP has helped us to understand in more depth a number of technology areas that are key to us in our focus within the Investment in Innovation fund. OrbisIP has proven a knowledgeable and flexible partner with a global outlook on sourcing innovative security technology. They have a strong technical team and international network which are harnessed well by their experience and entrepreneurship.”
